Why not enjoy a gîte holiday in Sanxay, in the the second sunniest part of France?  Discover the delightful and historical Poitou Charente.

Saugé is a substantial 19th century maison de maître with 16th century origins set around a courtyard on a site which has been occupied since Roman times. The gîte at Saugé offers comfortable and well-equipped accommodation for 4 or 5 people in a peaceful setting with a sunny terrace and gardens overlooking the historic and picturesque village of Sanxay.  There is also a chambre d’hôtes in the main house if you wish to sleep a further two people

The village is conveniently situated midway between Poitiers and Niort nestling in the valley of the River Vonne surrounded by gently rolling countryside.  In the village, a short walk away, you will find a grocery shop, a post office, boulangerie, bar and hairdresser.  A SPAR supermarket and bank are at Mènigoute, 5 kms away.  By the river is an olympic size open air swimming pool with a separate childrens’ pool and play area:  here you can also hire pedalos or go fishing.  There is an excellent golf course and a range of good restaurants within easy reach.

The gîte at Saugé is a good base from which to visit the nearby Gallo-Roman site, the prehistoric burial chambers at Bougon or historic Poitiers.  The Marais Poitevin (“Green Venice”),  the multimedia centre at Futuroscope and the Atlantic coast at La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are all easily accessible:  other activities in the area include golf, walking, cycling, bird watching, canoeing and horse-riding.
